I had the
pleasure of being invited back to Leigh Academy Bearsted to talk to the
children in Year 3 about the illustrations as featured in The adventures of
Harry Alliss.
The
children picked three images that they wanted to talk about, as found in the
short story: Harry, Aunty Dare and her magical scooter.
It was
joyful to see how much they learned from examining the images in greater detail
once they were magnified on the wall-mounted digital monitor. We were then all
able to pick out details, which perhaps aren’t so easy to see in the
book.
As an
exercise I read out another Harry story that I had written recently, and asked
the children to sketch an illustration that they thought would be appropriate
for the story line. It was amazing what some of the children created. Budding
story writers and illustrators in the making perhaps!
Many thanks
to Leigh Academy and the children for another wonderful day.
Looking to the future, I’m looking forward to going to another school fairly soon. More news to follow.
