Hi everybody, I’m Drew Salah and this is my blog
about how I came to write The Adventures of Harry Alliss (and friends) and some
of the steps along this journey. I’m a Newbie so this is actually the first
book I’ve ever written, and I consider myself very lucky in having it accepted
and published by Austin Macauley. It is a truism that everyone has a book inside
them because we all live a life and learn from the ups and downs that we
experience and the observations that we make. Not everyone will want to write a
book and I certainly was in that category for most of my life right up to the
point where I was going to retire from my professional career. It was a job I
enjoyed working in a high-pressured engineering technical service environment
dealing with some highly technical and sophisticated software applications.
Then my eldest daughter remarked, ‘what are you going to do when you retire
Dad’.
Good question!
As with a lot of folks who work in a high-pressure environment stopping work is
going to create a void. You tend not to think about it too much, after all
something will turn up, you are a solution orientated person after all!
‘Why don’t you write those stories you use to tell us Dad when we were little’,
my daughter continued.
Now that had been posed to me before by my eldest, but I poo pooped it and just
got on with life, but this time I found a little bit of spare time opened up my
personal laptop and launched Word and started to write. The stories just
tumbled out of my head. I was getting titles to stories quicker than I could
write them down. Obviously, I was a pent-up writer but didn’t know it until I
pressed the release button, and so the journey started.
I’ll pen a few more words about why I chose a children’s genre book and some of
my thinking behind the story lines. Till then take care. Hope
you enjoy Harry’s adventures.
